What to Know About Fabric Resistance Bands - A Guideline

What to Know About Fabric Resistance Bands - A Guideline - POWERBANDS®

Have you heard of fabric resistance bands for exercise but are unsure how to use them or which activities are best?

Are they as efficient and advantageous as weights? Can resistance bands be used for weight loss and muscle gain? And should they be utilized at all?

Fabric resistance bands are one of the most versatile training tools available. Also known as exercise and workout bands, these elastic bands are utilized for physical therapy and general fitness. No other exercise tool on the market can do so much for so little money, both at home and on the road.

Benefits of Fabric Resistance Bands

1. Tones and Strengthens Muscle

Stretching your muscles with resistance bands increases tension and causes them to contract. The more you stretch the band, the more intense the resistance and the more complex the exercise. Additionally, you can increase resistance by holding the resistance band to increase tension, such as by bringing your hands together when performing arm movements.

2. Improves Muscle Stimulus

The variable resistance applied throughout an exercise's full range of motion is one significant difference between free weights and resistance bands.

This means that the muscle is receiving more resistance at its most vital point in the range of motion, thus more adequate resistance to better stimulate strength adaptations.

3. Excellent for Stretching

Any tube or flat band is excellent for post-workout stretches and pre-workout mobility work. Stretching is typically limited by your flexibility and range of motion, and many effective stretches even require another person to apply pressure to the muscle.

Instead, use bands to help stretch, such as lying down hamstring stretches to extend your reach and provide pressure. Fabric resistance bands are also excellent for mobility work when wrapped around a sturdy object, such as improving ankle and hip mobility for squats.

4. Portable and Lightweight

Travelling makes it challenging to work out or find a gym. Bands let you work out in a hotel or outdoors without heavy equipment and other exercise necessities. They won't weigh down your luggage but will give you a practical, full-body workout.

5. Aids in Injury Recovery

Resistance bands have been used for a long time by people recovering from sports- or muscle-related injuries. Your joints and other tissues are safe because resistance bands do not apply pressure as weights do.

How to Use Fabric Resistance Bands

To use a resistance band, make sure you have a band that is the correct size. Different bands are designed for various purposes, so get the right one for your needs.

Once you have the band, put it around your ankles or wrists. Ensure the band is tight enough to make it difficult to move your hands or feet but not so tight that it is uncomfortable.

Now, it is time to start exercising! Start with some basic exercises such as squats, push-ups, and lunges. As you become more comfortable using the resistance band, you can try more challenging activities, such as swings and tricep extensions.

It is essential to be patient while using a resistance band. It may take a few attempts before you start seeing results, but it will surely be worth it.

Conclusion

As we have seen, fabric resistance bands can provide significant resistance when stretched or contracting. It is essential to learn the guidelines outlined in this article to ensure that the band delivers the desired resistance level.

POWERBANDS® 30cm Fabric Blue Band – Heavy Non-Slip Glute Resistance Exercise Band | 6kg–20kg Resistance | Build Strength
Anne Wiseman
Blue band

To be honest it is a little easy for me. The extra heavy is better for my glute abductions . But I am an intermediate lifter. The band itself is very well made

Thanks, Anne. That makes sense for an intermediate lifter: the Blue sits one step below the X-Heavy Black, so the Black is the better pick for your glute abductions. The Blue still earns its place for warm-ups, band walks and higher-rep sets, and it's good to hear you rate the build quality. – Michael Clancy

POWERBANDS® 30cm Fabric Black Band – X-Heavy Non-Slip Glute Resistance Exercise Band | 8kg–30kg Resistance | Strength Training
Anne Wiseman
Good band

Very tough when doing seated band abductions which is good because I don’t have access to a seated abduction machine

Thanks, Anne. Good to hear the X-Heavy Black is tough enough on seated band abductions to stand in for an abduction machine. That kind of home setup is exactly what the 30cm fabric bands are made for. – Michael Clancy
